Official: EU considering capping Russian gas price

BRUSSELS, Sep 1 (PRIME) -- The European Commission is considering various scenarios of capping Russian gas prices, including setting maximum import prices and maximum E.U. wholesale prices, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's Energy Directorate Mechthild Worsdorfer said Thursday.

"The situation remains very, very critical and from the European Commission side, we’re working at full speed on looking at different aspects of security of supply and energy prices,” Woersdoerfer said.

Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that the E.U. leaders would discuss measures aimed at limiting Russian gas prices in October. According to Woersdoerfer, the issue will be considered earlier, at an extraordinary meeting on September 9.
